In 2019, we are celebrating the 35th edition of this competition on the Grande Plage in Biarritz, from April 19 to April 22, 2019, during the Easter weekend. This event bears the name of a famous Biarrot who died too soon in 1984: Maïder Arostéguy. She was an emblematic figure of the city and at the origin of the association of traders of Les Halles. For 33 years, Robert RABAGNY, creator and organizer of this event, has been happy to celebrate the memory of his friend Maïder, during the Easter weekend on the site of La Grand Plage.
The Biarritz Quiksilver Maïder Arostéguy is appreciated by surfers, the competition attracts moreover every year the best French and European surfers. After paying tribute to surfing legends Brian Keaulana, Laird Hamilton, MarkCunningham and many others, the entire Basque country (north and south) is honoring a very great champion this year: Kelly Slater. Surf mega-star Kelly Slater to sponsor the edition 2019 of the Maider Arosteguy announced its organizer last November. Young surfers are grouped together in the Steak N Shake Trophies (6 categories – 18 years old) and 2 Open categories.
