Summer in the Aude: opt for water sports in Port Mahon

To take a breath of fresh air, nothing beats, or almost, a stopover at the nautical base of Port Mahon.

« We have an exceptional setting here, it would be a shame not to come and spend at least a day », claims Jean-Luc Fayos, responsible for the premises. The nautical base of Port Mahon benefits from an ideal setting for the practice of nautical sports. From kayaking to catamaran and windsurfing, everything is there to practice sports in the best conditions.

With your feet in the Bages-Sigean pond, you are immersed in an atypical atmosphere. Marine smell carried by gusts of wind that blow non-stop throughout the year.

A guided kayak tour

Since the beginning of the summer, the nautical base has been organizing « 100% nature », a discovery outing of the lagoon during which the participants row quietly towards unusual places. From 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., we weave between the islands of the pond while tasting local organic wine while enjoying the sunset. The last two kayak outings will take place on Wednesday August 24 and Friday August 26, from 6:30 p.m., and will allow everyone to celebrate the end of summer in a very nice way.

A wide variety of activities

Without necessarily venturing into the lagoon as part of these guided hikes, it is still possible to rent kayaks, single or double, for a duration ranging from one hour to a day. Equipped with a road book provided by the nautical base, visitors will be able to discover the fauna and flora of the lagoon on their own. Arriving at the handle of the olive tree, with a little luck, you can observe dozens of pink flamingos. Pointe des Oulous is an ideal place for a short break before continuing towards the island of Aute, which can be explored on foot, leaving your kayak at the quay.
In addition to kayaking, the nautical base offers the possibility of trying out catamaran, windsurfing and wingsurfing, as well as stand up paddle. The complex also provides private lessons, provided by approved instructors.
