Summary of MLS games including playoffs in the East
It would have been surprising for Toronto FC to give CF Montreal a hand in the playoff race in the East.
Although unintentionally, the Toronto team allowed direct rivals of the Montrealers to overtake them in the standings by conceding a loss of 2-0 against Atlanta United on Saturday.
This victory for Atlanta makes it possible to climb to fifth place in the East with a harvest of 42 points in 29 games. He relegates CF MTL to seventh place with 41 points, one more than New York City FC, which has one game less to its name.
DC United’s 0-0 draw against Nashville allows them to post as many points as CF Montreal.
Jonathan Osorio came close to opening the scoring for Toronto early in the game, but his strike ended its run on the bar. Luiz Araujo accepted a rebate in the box during stoppage time in the first half and his pitch barely got the better of Alex Bono to put his team in charge at BMO Field.
Marcelino Moreno put the finishing touches to this meeting with a goal in the 97th minute in stoppage time.
