Stuck in Detroit, Kei Kamara misses training

The striker was absent from Monday’s session, returning to training for the team after a weekend off granted by head coach Hernán Losada.

According to Instagram, Kamara had visited his family in the United States, but his (many) posts on Sunday indicated that he had run into problems on his flights back from Kansas. City to Montreal, with a stopover in Detroit where he finally had to spend the night. A new publication on social networks in the middle of the afternoon on Monday finally presented him in the locker room of the Center Nutrilait.

If Losada seemed in a good mood when he was asked about his exercises for the day, he was not laughing when, again, Kamara returned to the subject. The rules, recalled the Argentine coach, apply to everyone, players and staff alike.

This week is the second time I’ve given the weekend off, Losada said. It means a lot to me. Unfortunately, he is not here today. He’s already lost a week of work because he arrived late, and all that happened before I arrived was between the club and Kei. But from now on, it’s with me as coach, and he’s not here. Frankly, I’m disappointed.

Kamara had participated in his first session of 2023 with CF Montreal last Friday, he who announced on January 11 that he had requested a trade. The club’s sporting director, Olivier Renard, later claimed the striker had spoken publicly without our consent. On the first day of camp, Losada said Kamara, ill, remained in Sierra Leone.

Still in the section of absences, that of Joaquin Torres made less noise in training than that of Kamara, but its consequences could be more immediate.

At the heart of rumors that send him to the Philadelphia Union, Torres was not in training on Monday either. Because of an injury? No no noLosada said simply, and that was all it took for the web, as it was called at the time, to ignite.

Torres is not there, but there is nothing official, indicated the very subtle Losada. We can say absolutely nothing.

In two seasons with Montreal, the little Argentine provided 7 goals and 12 assists over his 3201 minutes spent on the pitch. A winger by training, Torres struggled to showcase himself in a system where the corridors were mainly occupied by the side defenders.

A relatively consistent starter in his first campaign (28 games, including 22 as a starter), he started just 15 of the 27 games he played last season — and only played 90 minutes three times in MLS in 2022.
