Steve Kerr takes a big hit from the owner of the Warriors!

At the start of the next season, Steve Kerr will have his work cut out to keep Golden State at the same level as last year. Especially if the owner gets involved… Because Joe Lacob had a request for the least cash towards the tactician, recently.

The least we can say is that Steve Kerr is not having an easy off-season. His Warriors, however, have just lifted the title, the fourth in eight years that he has coached on the spot… only then, the future of the franchise is currently a bit unclear, due to financial reasons. Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole may leave as potentially too expensive, while Draymond Green could perhaps ask for a trade if the leaders do not give him the max.

Consequently, it is not easy at all for the coach to build his roster and define the rotations, his team being expected at the turn as the outgoing champions. And now he is taking pressure from the upper echelons of the Californian organization… Indeed, Joe Lacob had some rather remarkable remarks recently, during an interview with Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner. While they were discussing the case of future sophomore Jonathan Kuminga, the owner dropped the following statement:

Iguodala : It is obvious that Kuminga has all the talent in the world. We know that if he can get everything lined up just right…
Lacob : Why don’t you tell that to our coach so that he plays him?

He may pass it off as a joke, but it’s impossible not to see a message from the big boss to the tactician. The latter therefore finds himself with a new challenge on his hands, to make the Congolese more responsible.

As a reminder, the winger played 70 regular season games in 2021-22, averaging 9.3 points and 3.3 rebounds. His role, however, drastically decreased in the playoffs, with only 8 minutes per game against the double before the post-season. It must be said that in addition to having been a beginner, the interested party still showed some weaknesses, in particular at three points (33% success). But the decision makers seem to appreciate him, enough in any case to ask that he play more often.

The good news is that with all the movements made within the workforce this summer, the nugget should have the chance to develop a little more. Nemanja Bjelica, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Gary Payton II: all of these players have left Golden State since the market opened. Suddenly, he has a little less competition on the wings and after the promise he showed last year, he will therefore have more opportunities. This will delight Joe Lacob.

Steve Kerr is warned, the hierarchy of the Warriors would like to see more Jonathan Kuminga on the ground in 2022-23. Given that several players left the Dubs this summer, it should be easier to get him to play, provided he’s up to speed.
