Stade Rennais: François Pinault is the richest owner of a football club in the world

The magazine Forbes published, at the beginning of April 2022, the ranking of the 10 richest owners of sports clubs in the world. François Pinault, Breton and owner of Stade Rennais since 1998, would be richest owner of a football club in the world in 2022and the third all sports combined.

A fortune estimated at 40 billion euros

The Pinault family is at the head of the company Kering, specializing in luxury and wine. In 2021, their fortune was estimated at 41 billion euros, which made him the first Breton fortune. With the war in Ukraine, this amount has fallen to now reach 40.4 billion euros in 2022.

It is now Francois-Henri Pinault, son of François Pinault, who holds the position of CEO of the group Kering.

An American and an Indian at the top of the ranking

In front of the family Pinault and the Rennais Stadium there are two owners, American and Indian. The first in the ranking, Steve Ballmer, owns the basketball club Los Angeles Clippers playing in the NBA. His fortune is estimated at 82 billion of dollars.

The second in the ranking, Mukesh Ambani, owns the Mumbai Indians cricket club. His fortune is estimated at 81 billion of dollars. Six American owners are in the top 10 and Francois Pinault is the only Frenchman in the ranking.
