As often, the girls of the Stade de Reims do not have to be ashamed of their performance this Sunday afternoon in Delaune against Lyon. But as too often, they lacked a bit of concentration and lucidity on a few sequences to prevent the Rhodaniennes from taking off at the end of the match. If some will only look at the score, the others understood this Sunday that it will be necessary to count on the Rémoises this season.
Envy, solidarity and fighting spirit were not enough. Faced with the experience of a French and European champion team, the Rémoises did not hold out over time. Authors of an encouraging performance, they will have cracked at the end of the match after being physically worn out and while the young players, some of whom were making their first appearance in D1, paid for their inexperience. For a long time, however, the Lyonnaises lacked solutions, well blocked by Marnaises well in place. It was even Melchie Dumornay who created the best opportunity on the counter. It takes two set pieces to change the face of the game. From a corner, the Lyonnaises took advantage of defensive errors to score twice and reach the locker room with a comfortable lead, despite Kessya Bussy’s shot at the post.
Not dejected, however, the Rémoises decided to play higher when they returned from the locker room. Enterprising, daring, the protégés of Amandine Miquel made Lyon’s central defense fragile, experimental for the occasion, the fault of several major absences (Wendie Renard, in particular). Repositioned in defense, Amandine Henry showed signs of weakness. Flaws that Melchie Dumornay exploited perfectly, whose speed hit the bull’s eye. In a duel, the Haitian international thus presented herself alone against the goalkeeper, whom she adjusted to reduce the score. What pique the pride of the champions of France. The daughters of Sonia Bompastor accelerated while the Rémoises, tired, lowered their flag. The young Adèle Connesson and Léa Bourgain, although volunteers, remained too inexperienced to prevent the visitors from flying away. Sara Dabritz’s 3rd goal completely cut off the local wings. The end of the match is anecdotal and the score severe. The Rémoises, although too nice at times, have shown that they should still be counted on this season. It now remains to improve the content with a victory. Why not face Montpellier next week.
