Squad, transfers and goals

While the Comex of the FFF has just validated its reintegration into Ligue 2, Bordeaux will try to go back to Ligue 1 this season.

Bordeaux’s record last season:

Hard to do worse. This could be summed up the Girondins de Bordeaux season last year. Yet all the lights were green. The club threatened with bankruptcy, last summer, was saved by a miraculous takeover by Gérard Lopez. The former owner of LOSC had then set up a tandem Admar Lopes (sports director) – Vladimir Petkovic (coach) supposed to put Bordeaux back on track. Forced to see that the train quickly derailed. Indeed, the Swiss coach never found the solution and his methods were described as lax internally. After 23 days of Ligue 1, the Swiss technician is dismissed for lack of results.

His successor David Guion will not do much better by taking 11 points from 14 games. Consequence: a pitiful 20th place in Ligue 1 synonymous with relegation and the record for the worst defense in Europe with 91 goals conceded.

The movements of the off-season:

Pending the effective decision of the Comex, only 2 players were able to join Bordeaux this summer. The first is Alberth Elis. The Scapular club has exercised the purchase option with Boavista to permanently obtain the services of the Honduran striker. However, it is highly likely that the 26-year-old striker will leave the club this summer. In addition, the Girondins recorded the arrival of the young Polish goalkeeper Rafal Strączek. This transfer was concluded during the last winter transfer window. Yoann Barbet, Danylo Ignatenko and Vital N’Simba await the Comex’s decision on whether their contract will be approved.

On the departure side, the marines and whites resigned themselves to selling their young nugget Sékou Mara in order to be reinstated in Ligue 2. It was Southampton who won the bet concerning the French international hope for the sum of 13 million euros . Raoul Bellanova has meanwhile joined Cagliari after the Sardinian club exercised its purchase option. In addition, Benoît Costil (Auxerre), Otavio (Atlético Mineiro), Marcelo and Jimmy Briand left free after the end of their contract in June. Same story for the two young people from the training center, Tidiane Malbec and Amadou Traoré.

Bordeaux: Ambitions and rankings

For this 2022-2023 season, the Girondins will have only one objective: to go directly back to Ligue 1. A task that promises to be difficult because only the first two in the ranking will validate their tickets for the elite.

In addition, the administrative battle led by the Bordeaux management to keep its place in Ligue 2 will leave its mark. Indeed, the Marines and White have lagged behind in recruitment unlike its competitors. A delay that could have consequences for the start of the season for David Guion’s men. In addition, the terrible last season is likely to leave its mark on a workforce that has not evolved enormously.

The results of the friendly matches:

Bordeaux 2-1 Rodez

Trelissac 0-3 Bordeaux

Holy-Etienne 1-1 Bordeaux

Player to watch:

However, he was not in the plans of coach David Guion. Thanks to or because of the episodes of the Bordeaux off-season, Logan Delaurier-Chaubet seized his chance during the club’s preparation matches at the Scapular. The 20-year-old versatile player even scored 3 goals during this campaign of friendly matches. Given the visibility of the Bordeaux transfer window, the native of Rieucros (Ariège) could start the season in the shoes of a holder. It is now up to him to keep his place and perhaps help bring his training club back to the top flight.

The Bordeaux calendar:

Bordeaux will begin its season by hosting Valenciennes at the Matmut Atlantique. From the 3rd day, the Girondins will play their first Aquitaine derby against the Chamois Niortais at home. Note, the big poster during the 8th day against AS Saint-Etienne at Geoffroy-Guichard. Bordeaux will conclude its first leg with the reception of Amiens. During the 22nd day, the Marines and Blanc will travel to Pau for a new Aquitaine derby. Finally, the Scapular club will conclude its season with the reception of Rodez. A last match to perhaps celebrate the return of the Girondins to Ligue 1.
