Adams’ fortune is estimated at over $ 1 billion. In the 1980s, he met his wife Margaret while on a voluntary mission to a kibbutz in the United Kingdom. The couple have four children.

Sylvan Adams is involved as a patron and philanthropist. He holds many honorary positions. In 2015, he was one of the signatories of The Giving Pledge, a philanthropic campaign launched by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. He and his wife set up the Margaret and Sylvan Adams Family Foundation, to support educational and medical projects in Israel and Canada. The foundation offers doctoral scholarships to the Israeli Academy of Sciences and Letters.
