The Spanish Garbine Muguruza became world number 3 after her victory in the Women’s Masters, the finalist, Estonian Anett Kontaveit, gaining a place to go No 7 in the WTA rankings. Muguruza, 28, gained two places to regain a rank she had not occupied since July 2018.

Her compatriot Paula Badosa, whom she defeated in the semifinals, also progressed two places to reach the best ranking of her career, in 8th place.
The Australian Ashleigh Barty is still firmly at the top of the world rankings, followed by Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. Czech Barbora Krejcikova, third in the world before the Masters, left Guadalajara 5th after her three defeats in the first round.
