Spaniard Juan Mata signs for Galatasaray

Spanish attacking midfielder Juan Mata, who left Manchester United this summer after eight years with the Red Devils, signed a two-year contract with Galatasaray on Thursday, the Turkish club announced.

« An agreement has been signed with professional footballer Juan Manuel Mata Garcia for two seasons, one of which is optional, » Galatasaray said in a statement.

The player will receive a net salary of EUR 1.9 million for the 2022-2023 season, the Istanbul club said.

Arriving in Manchester from Chelsea in 2014 for 43 million euros, Mata has worn the Man Utd shirt 285 times and won four trophies, including the Europa League in 2017.

The 34-year-old former Spanish international (40 sel.), however, had only had a secondary role in recent seasons.

Turkey’s most successful side, Galatasaray are in 7th place in the Turkish Süper Lig standings with 10 points after 5 rounds.

Mata will evolve in the red and gold jersey with the Argentinian Mauro Icardi, loaned Thursday for a season by Paris SG.
