Last year, Britons Oliver Bryant and James Cottingham offered the legendary Ford GT40, heroine of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, its 15th victory in the Spa Six Hours Endurance! This shows how the racing car with the blue oval is the ideal, even absolute, weapon to claim the win. And if, almost twelve months ago, there were 12 cars of this type at the start, the list of 2022 entries is rich with… 19 GT40s! Which means the fight for victory will be more explosive than ever. Especially since these cars will be very well tamed, with a mix of specialists from historic races and drivers from modern competitions. This is how the Briton Alex Brundle and the German Frank Stippler, will constitute reinforcements of choice for their teammates, while in the very supplied ranks of the British, the references are called Bryant, Cottingham, Pearson, Hancock, Wright, Gans , Wolfe, Davies, Jordan, Newall, Meins, Lynn and others…
In this year 2022, the final victory could nevertheless escape a crew having crossed the English Channel. Two Ford GT40 ‘from the lowlands’ are indeed well equipped to create a surprise, in this case the #78 of the Dutch David Hart, Olivier Hart and Nicky Pastorelli, but also the #4 of the Belgians Emile Breittmayer, Christophe Van Riet and Fred Bouvy! As for Eric van de Poele, he will once again be the teammate of American Jim Farley, who needs no introduction, at the wheel of the #98!
To hunt GT40s, we traditionally rely on the best Jaguar E-Types. Probably a little less numerous this year, but still very efficient, starting with the Lightweight and Semi-Lightweight versions of John Clark, Gordon Mutch and Alasdair McCaig on the one hand, William Paul and Rory Butcher on the other. Jon Minshaw, Jack Minshaw and Phil Keen will also trust the famous feline.
Brilliant creation of Carroll Shelby, the Cobra tends on the other hand to generalize. And with tamers such as Christian Traber, Seb Perez, Armand Adriaans, but also a certain Marc Duez alongside other Belgians Jacques Castelein and Kurt Dujardyn, a surprise is not impossible. Two ‘Coupé Daytona’ versions will be at the start, with Olivier Muytjens and Brice Pineau on the one hand, David Smithies, Chris Clarkson and Mark Pangborn on the other.
Of a much more collected template, the Lotus Elan 26R are totally able to shake up the values established over the distance. Here too, the specialists are scrambling, with the Shapecraft version of Schryver-Schryver-Weller, but also boys like Graham Wilson, Armand Mille, Harvey Stanley, Simon Evans, John Littlejohn and Miles Griffith!
With almost a hundred cars, the peloton will also include Ford Mustangs, Galaxies and Falcon Sprints, with nothing less than Vanina Ickx alongside Bernd Georgi and Manfredo Rossi di Montelera, the unmissable Aston Martin DB4 GT DP214 from Wolfgang Friedrichs and Simon Hadfield, Porsche 904 GTS (with Eric Mestdagh), Ferrari 250 GT SWB (with Marc Devis), Gilbern 1800 GT, Triumph TR4 SLR, Marcos 1800 GT, Ginetta G4R, TVR Grantura and Griffith, Porsche 911 (with Markus Palttala), etc.
As you have understood, no old racing car enthusiast will be able to find a valid excuse to miss this Spa Six Hours Endurance race, which will offer more than ever a wonderful journey through time…
