South Africa: Launch of the Women’s Sasol League playoffs behind closed doors

Following the postponement of the 2021 edition of the Sasol League Women’s National Championships due to the Omicron variant last year in South Africa, the highly anticipated tournament kicked off on Monday February 7 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi in Durban. Everything ends on the 13th of the month.

The 9 provincial winning clubs of the Sasol League (second division amateur championship) launched the playoffs of the South African tournament. These teams are aiming for a place in the finals where the top two will be promoted to the Hollywoodbets Super League (elite professional women’s league) before the start of the 2021-22 season.

As a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus, the Sasol National Championships will take place behind closed doors. Football fans will however be able to watch the semi-finals and the final on SABC Sport on 11 and 13 February 2022.

The Women’s Sasol League tournament was originally scheduled for December last year, but was moved to this year. The cause is linked to the fact that cases of the Omicron variant have risen sharply across South Africa.
