The South African Football Association (SAFA) has announced that a considerable bonus has been paid to the champions of the African Cup of Nations (CAN women) 2022.
It was the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa who revealed the information on Tuesday. According to SAFA, it is 15 million South African rand, or exactly 892.133.85 US dollars. This sum which is nothing more than a bonus awarded to the Banyana Banyana as a reward for winning the women’s CAN last month.
The South Africans won the continental title after beating hosts Morocco 2-1. A check handover ceremony was organized for this purpose. The champions coach, Desiree Ellis, was present. Co-captains Andile Dlamini and Thembi Kgatlana also participated in the event.
The official sponsor of the South African women’s team (SASOL) also offered 5,550,000 rand, or 330,693.98 US dollars. The Banyana Banyana are due to play two friendlies next month against Brazil’s A Seleção in South Africa.
