LONDON – Returning to Chelsea, in a record transfer for the Blues after a first stint between 2011 and 2014, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku considered himself « more complete » seven years later, in an interview at the site Club internet.
Snatched for 115 million euros from Inter Milan last week, and logically absent against Crystal Palace (3-0) for the opening of the championship on Saturday, he could join the group on Sunday for the derby against Arsenal.
« I just feel more complete, » said the one who had arrived almost unknown, at 18, in London.
“I have tried to master all the facets necessary for an attacker and I want to constantly improve the smallest details while also improving my strengths,” he said.
“My two years in Italy have helped me in all aspects of the game and now I’m ready,” he added.
Last season, the Belgian scored 27 goals and delivered 11 assists last season, which saw the Nerazzurri claim the title.
But after also wearing the shirts of West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Manchester United, he already knows English football by heart.
And in a London club which sometimes struggled to find the net last year, relying mainly on an intractable defense, the striker is convinced of being able to bring to the team of Thomas Tuchel.
« Our conversation was very clear, he wants me for my presence (in front of the goal) and as a leader in the team, » said Lukaku.
« Whether he wants me to play as a pivot or he wants me to take the spaces in the back, I can do it, » he said.
The ambition of the player is in any case very clear: « the team in which I arrive is very strong, so I just have to prove (what I am worth) on the ground by aiming for the title in the Premier League », a- he clamored.
