Coupe de France (8th round). EA Guingamp (L2) – Stade Briochin (N), this Saturday (4:15 p.m.)
What moment in your career are you most proud of?
When my children saw me play a final, even if it was the Coupe de la Ligue, in Lille against Strasbourg (0-0 ap, 1-4 tabs, March 30, 2019). As a parent, it is a source of pride. The whole family was there.
What’s the biggest vibe you’ve experienced?
The Coupe de France semi-final against Monaco (3-1 after extra time, April 16, 2014). In addition, we had faced the great Monaco, with Berbatov, James Rodriguez, Martial, Toulalan, Moutinho… Roudourou was in turmoil. We had passed thanks to the public. The scenario had been crazy with Thibault (Giresse) who made two assists in overtime. There was a team that was made for this kind of feat. Everyone was in the gift of oneself.
In Kiev, when we went for a walk, we saw tanks.
Who would you have dreamed of evolving with?
Sergio Ramos! For his record, his charisma, because he is a legend at Real Madrid and he plays in the same position as me.
Which opponent did you hate to face?
(Gaëtan) Laborde, he was ch…. To score, with a lot of races. And then (Edinson) Cavani who, too, was tiring (smile). Both were fair, I never had a problem with a striker except with Cvitanich, from Nice. It was the most …, a human stupidity! I can’t even tell you what he was doing in the field.
Your ideal eleven with players of your generation?
In the goals, Loïc Mottier. It could also have been Max Pattier or Mamadou Samassa but I played so long with him at Plabennec! In defense, John (Martins-Pereira) on the right. In the middle, Steven Abiven with Jé Sorbon. On the left, Dorian Lévêque. In the middle, Lionel Mathis and Mouss Diallo. Above, Claudio Beauvue, Thibault Giresse and Laurent David. In front of Toto Mandanne or Muss Yatabaré, I don’t know… There is Jean-Michel Abiven too! Frankly, I could make four teams! I also think of James Le Marer with whom a friendship in Saint-Brieuc was created beyond football.
The most influential trainer you have known?
There is three. Jocelyn (Gourvennec), obviously, because he launched me, made me discover the professional world, Ligue 1, he made me win the Coupe de France, play the European Cup… It is someone I really like. Also, Bernard Maligorne and Franck Kerdilès. I could also add Antoine (Kombouaré), with whom I had a great relationship.
The best memory of victory?
The Coupe de France final against Rennes (2-0, May 3, 2014). The Stade de France was full. My whole family was there. My little one (Nala) was in her mother’s womb.
Your biggest failure?
The first half of my first Ligue 1 match against Marseille (August 11, 2013). We are 3-0 down after a quarter of an hour and the three goals are not far from being for me. A disaster ! It was a Sunday evening at 9 p.m. on Canal +, I had played this match before and it served me for the rest of my career.
The greatest injustice you have experienced?
Our elimination in the round of 16 of the Europa League against Dynamo Kiev (2-1, 1-3). It was not deserved. The climate was very hot there. In the morning, when we had gone for a walk, we had seen tanks. The atmosphere had influenced the match. After five minutes, they must take a red after a foul on Toto Mandanne. Otherwise, I would also say our two semi-finals of the Coupe de France lost, against Auxerre (0-1, 2015) and Angers (0-2, 2017).
Étienne (Didot) is one of those players who unites a group
The biggest laugh of your career?
There were so many good times! There is a guy that I did not mention in my team, it’s Étienne (Didot). He is one of those players who unites a group and creates a good atmosphere. Like Marcus Thuram, Champi (Benjamin Angoua) or Cheick Traoré.
The jersey you picked up and will never give away?
Ibrahimovic’s at the Champions Trophy in Beijing (0-2, August 2, 2014). I asked him at the end, he gave it to me without any problem, he even took mine. I also have Mbappé’s.
The loved one who has mattered the most in your career?
My wife, Alicia, without hesitation. We were together long before I signed to Guingamp. Of course, there are also my parents (Jean-Yves and Jeanine) who allowed me, when I was little, to do all the sports I wanted. And then, today, my children (Nala and Enzo).
Your superstition before each game?
Shin guards! There is the photo of my two children on it, it was Nico Benezet who launched the concept. I also look at a photo of them before entering the field.
What will it do to find Roudourou as an opponent?
It’s nice ! Especially in the current context, after a season without an audience. I think it’s great. I hope that it will be a family and joyful atmosphere, that we will show a good image of sport, football and the Côtes-d’Armor. With everything we’re seeing right now, it really has to be a nice party.
Will this be Christophe Kerbrat’s jubilee?
No, the jubilee will be when I stop my career. There, I am still a player, fully into it, 100% and even 200%! I know the years are more behind than in front, but I bite into them. I will have another year of contract with Saint-Brieuc after this one. The day when I am no longer hungry, I will not cheat, that’s for sure. But for now, physically, everything is fine.
