A new step forward for the rights of female football players. As announced by the BBC, the contracts of footballers playing in England will be modified in the coming days. Indeed, they will now benefit from cover in the event of maternity or long illness. Until now, clubs were free to decide on the rights granted to players in the event of maternity.

In December 2020, FIFA had already approved the introduction of 14 weeks maternity leave and the obligation to reintegrate their players after childbirth. The English Federation has therefore transposed this will of the international body into practice.
