It is with great sadness that we learned this Sunday of the death of Sir Frank Williams at the age of 79. Founder of the eponymous team, this legend of the Formula 1 world leaves behind an exceptional track record. For Renault, Sir Frank Williams will remain one of the most important characters in its history, because it is with him that the Losange has probably written its most beautiful lines.
Williams and Renault are two names that will remain inseparable. Together, they conquered the top of Formula 1, winning between 1992 and 1997 no less than nine world titles. It is the golden age of the Losange in the discipline. Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve have contributed to the Legend of the Williams-Renault.
Apart from F1, this association had also marked the spirits. First with the famous Clio Williams bomblet sold to individuals, but also with the Laguna BTCC which will dominate the British Supertourism Championship, then a real world benchmark.
Ironically, the last victory for a Williams in Formula 1 came with Renault. It was in 2012 with Pastor Maldonado. Unfortunately, this will be the last time Sir Frank Williams sees one of his cars climb to the top of the podium.
Of course, these few lines are not enough to describe the man that Sir Frank Williams was, nor his history which goes far beyond his association with Renault. However, he will remain a forever member of the Losange family, marking a generation of enthusiasts.
Also, we would like to send our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
