Seven-point night from Nick Schmaltz sets Arizona Coyotes-Winnipeg Jets franchise record

Say hello, Nick Schmaltz.

In a crazy game Saturday afternoon, the Arizona Coyotes forward scored seven of the Yotes’ eight goals as the club beat the Ottawa Senators 8-5.

With two goals and seven points, the 26-year-old set a franchise record for the Arizona Coyotes and Winnipeg Jets for most points in a game. Truly an impressive feat considering the offensive firepower of the original Jets.

Schmaltz’s offensive explosion was the most points scored by a player in a game this season, and the most by a player in 10 years, when Sam Gagner scored eight points with the Edmonton Oilers.

Quietly, Schmaltz had a very productive year in Arizona. Coming into today’s game, he’s scored 12 goals and 26 points on the year with his career-high 0.74 ppg clip. Now in his fourth year with the Coyotes, Schmaltz was acquired in a 2018 trade to the Chicago Blackhawks where Arizona fired Brendan Perlini and Dylan Strome.
