Senators: Stützle back in lineup Thursday?

The Ottawa Senators could count on the return to play of Tim Stützle for their duel against the Washington Capitals at the Canadian Tire Center Thursday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, TSN5, RDS, NBCSWA, ESPN+, SN NOW).

The striker, who has missed the last four games with a shoulder injury, will be in the warm-up session and a decision will be made just before the game. Coach DJ Smith said the odds of Stützle in the lineup were 50-50.

« It’s getting better every day, » said the principal. And today I felt very good during the morning training. We’ll see how it goes tonight. »

Stützle left the game against the Anaheim Ducks on December 12 after being checked by Brett Leason.

“I thought it was going to be much worse, admitted the German. I could barely move her for the next seven days. But the magnetic resonance imaging exam showed everything was fine, so I’m happy and grateful. »

Stützle, who has 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 28 games, said the postponement of Friday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings due to the weather forecast increased the chances of seeing him play Thursday.

« Two games in two nights are always tough, » Stützle said. I’m going to be sore if I play tonight, but at the end of the day it helps to play one game instead of two in two days. »

The Senators (14-16-2) went 2-2-0 in Stützle’s absence.

« We haven’t played 5-on-5 well lately, » Smith said. We give more. The numbers prove it, we give too much. [Stützle], when he’s on the ice, he’s an offensive engine, but he can also get the job done defensively. It will help increase your time in zone [offensive] and accelerate your transition. It would be hard to say that he hasn’t been our best player since the start of the season. »

Stützle trained at the center of Brady Tkachuk and of Claude Giroux in the morning, and he also took part in power play drills.
