Sadio Mané should never have been transferred from Liverpool, who paid the pots from this start of the season.

Paul Merson, a former great Arsenal player and since then highly respected speaker for the English media, criticized Liverpool for selling Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich in the previous off-season.

Mané left the Reds after a six-year romance and his departure seems to have seriously impacted Jurgen Klopp’s training. The vice-champions of England have had a lot of trouble since the start of the season to hold their rank.

Nunez, “not up to Mané”

For Merson, it is therefore no coincidence. He told Sky Sports: « I said it from day one, in my opinion selling Sadio Mané was the worst deal. This guy scores really big goals. I’ll go over them for you: openers, equalisers, winning goals in the last minutes, great goals. He was the leader of the attack and for me, the reason for his departure I did not understand it ».

The former England international also spoke about Mané’s successor. For him, Darwin Nunez does not have the same stuff as the Senegalese. « Darwin Nunez is not playing in the same category at the moment. He is not coming from the same league. Their problems at the back start at the front. They are not closing the game as a team. We could talk about the talent of the three attackers, but there is also the fact that they prevented the opponent from progressing ».
