Second place in NASCAR Pinty’s: Kevin Lacroix’s results following the Mosport race

The NASCAR Pinty’s Series race held this afternoon at the Mosport circuit (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) saw the victory of Marc-Antoine Camirand ahead of Kevin Lacroix. It was the last event of the series on the road circuit this season, before the final on the oval of Delaware Speedway, next Saturday, September 25.

For Camirand, this victory is the decisive step towards a first NASCAR title. For rival car No.74 NAPA Auto Parts/Valvoline/Lacroix Tuning, things are now a bit more complicated. “Given the very tight championship race, I needed this victory” said Kevin Lacroix after the race.

Third in qualifying, he took the lead after just a few laps of the race. Lacroix carved out a comfortable lead which was erased during a first neutralization. Taking advantage of the yellow flag, half the peloton re-entered the pits three times; first for gasoline, then a second time for left side tyres, and a third time for right tyres.

Andrew Ranger, then leader of the event, opted for a different strategy, staying on track. Resuming the start in 9th place, Lacroix worked his way up to 3rd, where he got stuck behind Ranger and Camirand for a few laps, before moving up to second place.

The race went on with two more neutralizations. The last one, a few laps from the end, spiced up the battle for victory. Lacroix starting in 2nd position, he had to try to pass Camirand while watching Gary Klutt behind. Camirand took advantage of the fight between Lacroix and Klutt to take a small lead. However, with two laps to go, Lacroix fell behind his main competitor. The 51-lap race ended like this. “Marc-Antoine (Camirand) didn’t make any mistakes during the race,” explains Kevin. “It was difficult to fight him, but we still had a great car, especially at the end. I would have liked the race to last longer, but he deserves the victory and we are happy with second place” concluded the driver from St-Eustache.

With a 33-point lead over Kevin Lacroix at the top of the championship, Marc-Antoine Camirand will only need to start the last race of the season to be declared champion. Lacroix on the other hand will have to secure the title of vice-champion with a good result since DJ Kennington is only one point behind him and Alex Tagliani three. Camirand currently has 488 points, Lacroix 455, Kennington 454 and Tagliani 452. Treyten Lapcevich (440 points), Andrew Ranger (438) and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (432) follow in the championship standings.
