Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) on Thursday in an interview with Benin public television (RTB).
« I will be a candidate for the presidency of FECAFOOT) », said Eto’o, thus confirming information published in the Cameroonian press in recent days. “When I get involved in something, it’s to go all the way,” assured the double African champion in 2000 and 2002 with the Indomitable Lions.
Samuel Eto’o, who has played in the biggest clubs in the world (Real and FC Barcelona in Spain, Chelsea in England and Inter Milan in Italy), has won the African Golden Ball four times. The election to the presidency of FECAFOOT is scheduled for next October.
On January 15, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) annulled the electoral process that led Seidou Mbombo Njoya and his executive committee to head the Cameroon Football Federation, in December 2018. However, Fifa had decided, » in accordance with the recommendations of the sports court », to keep the team in place to manage day-to-day affairs and organize new elections.
Cameroonian media also mention the candidacies of former international Geremi Njitap as well as that of outgoing president, Seidou Mbombo Njoya, for the presidency of the governing body of Cameroonian football.
