Diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia, the Argentine striker decided it was better for his health not to return to the football field.
Aguero underwent a heart exam late last month after experiencing pain in his chest during FC Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Alaves.
The South American footballer lay down on the pitch in the 40th minute of the game at Camp Nou and the referee called the medical team, but Augero left the pitch on his own feet. He was then transported by ambulance to a hospital in Barcelona.
Aguero will announce his retirement next week
“Kun Aguero is retiring. Heart problems forced him to give up football. A press conference is scheduled for next week to announce his retirement, ”journalist Gerard Romero said on Twitter.
Aguero announced a week ago that he had not yet decided on his retirement, but was aware that he might not return to the pitch.
“If they tell me I have to quit, I will, but I have to wait for the test results first. I will continue with the recovery process and then we will see what the best decision is.
I have been in the hospital for five days, they did some tests, now I have to be patient. In a week, I will have more tests and we will see what happens next, ”said Sergio Aguero.
Sergio Aguero, 33, is the top scorer in Manchester City history, where he played for a decade (2011-2021), managing to score 260 goals in 390 matches. He has played 101 times for Argentina, scoring 41 goals.
