Roy Keane warns James Maddison transfer from Arsenal would be Leicester ‘step back’ as Ian Wright reacts by insisting ‘we will be back’
Roy Keane has said he believes it will be a step back for James Maddison if he leaves Leicester for Arsenal this summer.
The Gunners are looking to replace the creativity Martin Odegaard provided last season after returning to Real Madrid from a North London loan.
Maddison reportedly a transfer target for Arsenal, but Keane believes it wouldn’t be a wise move on his part
Arsenal have reportedly offered a more cash player deal to sign Maddison, with the aim of making him slightly cheaper than Leicester’s asking price of £ 60million.
The Foxes midfielder managed to score eight goals and provide seven assists last season, despite injuries.
He helped the club qualify for next season’s Europa League, narrowly missing out on Champions League football, while playing a role in their FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.
Arsenal meanwhile finished without a trophy in eighth without European football.
Maddison remains one of Leicester’s key men, and Manchester United legend Keane thinks that’s where he should say it.
Keane said ahead of Leicester’s Community Shield clash with Man City on Saturday: “Arsenal are a huge club, but at the moment I don’t think it’s a step forward for him to leave Leicester, where they are, for go to Arsenal. “
When asked if he thought it was a side step, Keane replied, “Probably back, then.
.
The Foxes signed the Norwich City playmaker for £ 20million three years ago and he dazzled at King Power, scoring 27 goals in 116 appearances for the club
“Arsenal are a huge club, but where Leicester are right now, trying to fight for the Champions League.
“They win, they won a trophy last year, Arsenal are short.”
Arsenal icon Ian Wright replied: “Leicester, obviously what they’ve done by winning the league and the FA Cup now, yes that’s newer.
“But Arsenal is following their path, we will be back.”
