Roma get out of the trap of promoted Cremonese in Serie A

For the second day of the Italian Championship, AS Roma won on their lawn against Cremonese (1-0). Lacking offensive success, José Mourinho’s players got rid of the trap of the promoted on a goal from Chris Smalling from a corner (65th). In addition to the absence of Georginio Wijlnaldum, who suffered a broken right tibia in training, the Romans lost Italian international Nicolo Zaniolo to injury (shoulder).

A promoted resistant to the invader

The Romans – with Rabiot holding – started the meeting with a lot of intensity, sitting on the goal of Ionut Radu. Launched on the right side, Tammy Abraham centered a ball that was too strong for Lorenzo Pellegrini, but the Italian managed to strike with a tackle and win the corner (3rd). Shortly after, Paulo Dybala looked for the English striker at close range but the latter could not conclude, the ball having been deflected by the Cremonese defense just above his goal (9th).

If the Louve attackers have not always been successful, Romanian goalkeeper Ionut Radu has remained vigilant. He had to work on successive strikes from Zaniolo and Dybala (18th) then Abraham shortly after (19th).

A lively end to the first period

Mourinho’s players continued to insist mainly on quick attack. Before the half hour mark, Leonardo Spinazzola cut off a center from Rick Karsdorp at the near post, but his recovery did not find the frame (26th). Cremonese came close to opening the scoring with a center shot from Emanuele Valeri who grazed the top corner of a beaten Rui Patricio (27th). Defended by Gianluca Mancini, the Belgian Cyriel Dessers took over a cross from an acrobatic return which passed just to the left of the goal of AS Roma (37th).

The end of the first period is lively. On a counter-attack, Nicolo Zaniolo was well stopped by Luka Lochoshvili, but the Italian fell back badly (43rd). After several minutes on the ground, he was taken out on a stretcher, suffering towards the shoulder. Roma insisted at the end of the first period with chances from Paulo Dybala (45+1), Stephan el-Shaarawy (45+2) and Tammy Abraham (45+4), without managing to open the scoring.

A match unlocked on a corner

Upon returning from the locker room, Cyriel Dessers did not go far from punishing AS Roma, his shot crashing into the crossbar of Rui Patricio (48th). José Mourinho’s players reacted with a great triangle game between Paulo Dybala, Tammy Abraham and Stephan el-Shaarawy, but the Egyptian’s shot was blocked by the crossbar before returning to the Argentinian who did not aim on target. right (55th).

The Romans began to get frustrated. The gestures of nervousness multiplied. José Mourinho and his players were relieved when, on a corner, a forgotten Chris Smalling at the far post catapulted the ball into the back of the net (65th, 1-0). During his celebration, he gave his support to Georginio Wijnaldum.

Cremonese quickly responded by directly procuring many dangerous situations, but AS Roma continued to be involved in the duels, preventing any revolt from the promoted. Charles Pickel came close to showering Roman joy, but his recovery in the last minutes hit the post (90th).

With this 1-0 success over Cremonese, AS Roma joins Naples and Inter Milan with two victories in as many games (pending the end of the Juventus match this Monday at 8:45 p.m.).
