Beaten by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in 2013, Franck Ribéry plague against France.

Franck Ribéry still has in his throat his failure in the quest for the Ballon d’Or nine years ago. While he was the big favorite, the former French international was overtaken by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. A setback that he has always considered a great injustice.

Ribéry struggles to turn the page

More than the loss of the Ballon d’Or, the Boulonnais deplores more the way he was treated by his compatriots. He feels that he has not been sufficiently supported by the leaders and people of influence within his country. « It’s like it was a robbery. I didn’t have all of France behind me. I saw with my own eyes, French people, coaches who told me it was Cristiano Ronaldo. Do you think Portugal wanted it to be Messi or Ribéry?” he asked in an interview with Canal+.

After 2013, Ribéry was no closer to winning the Ballon d’Or. His career declined and he also found himself on the sidelines of the Blues. He continues today, at the age of 39, to play with the Italian team of Salernitana. Sunday, however, he did not take part in the draw gleaned by his training against Juventus in Serie A (2-2).
