Renault 5 futures: a promising duo!

The Renault 5 prototype presented as part of the “Renaulution” presentation which announced the future of the French group in January 2021 made a strong impression. And this cute concept car will not remain a simple study of style, because the future Renault 5 E-Tech 100% will be strongly inspired by this prototype, itself inspired by the old R5 of the seventies. The production model that will arrive in 2024 will replace the Renault Zoe, while another electric model, inspired by the Renault 4, will come to help it a year later.

Displayed for less than € 20,000!

For the future Renault 5 E-Tech Electric (an unofficial surname), the diamond brand wants to make the electric popular by offering on the market a versatile city car four meters long, the base price of which should be less than 20,000 € excluding bonus. To succeed in this tour de force (remember that the Renault Zoe is displayed at € 32,500), the French brand will achieve economies of scale. First of all by using the basis of the Renault Clio CMF-B in an electric EV version, then by using LFP (Lithium-Iron-Phosphate) batteries more affordable than Lithium Ion, finally the double coil motor (placed at the front and driving the front wheels) should be that of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric but in a simplified version displaying around 90 hp.Renault 5 futures: a promising duo!

This effort to reduce costs as much as possible will concern all versions of the future R5 E-Tech Electric, but it will also exist in a high-end version with larger capacity batteries, but also with more powerful electromotors (up to at 150 hp). While the basic version of this new car will have a reduced range (200 to 250 km), more efficient versions should reach 400 km of range with a new generation battery exceeding 50 kWh.

Alpine in the loop

For Renault, the new Renault 5 must become a benchmark in the electric car market, but the brand also wants to make it a sports car. For this, the Losange will entrust its model to Alpine, who will load it up with horses and equip it with specific undercarriages in order to give it a dynamic behavior. Under the hood of the future R5 Alpine E-Tech Electric, we will find the electric motor of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric in its most powerful version of 218 hp. In order to differentiate it from the Renault 5, the R5 Alpine should be equipped with more imposing aerodynamic appendages: front spoiler, longer rear spoiler, air extractor, etc.

State-of-the-art equipment

On board the future R5 Alpine there will also be differences with an aluminum pedals, more enveloping seats (bucket seats), specific upholstery. What will not change, however, is the equipment of these cars which should receive the latest generations of driving aids (autonomous driving level 2 minimum), digital for instrumentation, a large screen for infotainment, etc.

With the Renault 5 and R5 Alpine but also with the future Renault 4 which should display a slightly larger size, the Renault brand will ensure good offspring to the Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric and Renault Zoe E-Tech Electric. And good news, all these new cars should be produced in France at the Douai plant in the Nord department.
