Radebe and Kalou named assistants for the draw of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers


Lucas Radebe and Salomon Kalou, former winners of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, will be the two draw assistants for the group stage draw of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire 2023 , Tuesday evening next week.

The draw will take place live at 17:30 GMT at SuperSport Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Former South African international defender Radebe and former Ivorian striker Kalou will join CAF competitions director Samson Adamu for the draw.

Former Bafana Banfana defender and captain Radebe was a member of the South African side that won the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in 1996. He made four appearances in Africa’s premier football competition, having played in the 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002 tournaments.

Radebe also captained the South African national football team in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Salomon Kalou

Kalou, the former Chelsea player, was a key striker for the Elephants when they won the AFCON in 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.

He scored five goals in the six tournament appearances as he featured in the 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017 editions of the continental flagship event.

Forty-eight teams will be split into 12 four-team groups, with the top two teams qualifying for the tournament to be held in the West African country.

Qualifications will start in June 2022.
