PUBG Mobile Sponsors Pakistan Cricket Franchise

PUBG-Mobile sponsors Lahore Qalandars cricket franchise, which competes in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), according to a official tweet from yesterday.

As part of this sponsorship, fans of the cricket franchise will have the chance to receive « exclusive » in-game items. It has not been revealed what exactly these are.

A spokesperson for Lahore Qalandars described the sponsorship as a « long-term strategic partnership » at a press conference. He added that it will be used to promote PUBG-Mobile and add significantly to its existing player base of around 15 million in the country. It will also focus on promoting healthy competition in esports.

The PSL is a franchise cricket league run by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Lahore Qalandars is one of the six teams in the league. The 2022 season will run from January 27 to February 27.

Cricket is a hugely popular sport in Pakistan, and sponsoring a franchise in the PSL will help PUBG-Mobile to connect directly with a large audience. Moreover, the PSL also has several foreign players, attracting fans from all over the world.

Pakistan has its own Club Open and National Championship in PUBG-Mobile esports. These competitions rank among the best PUBG-Mobile Pro League (PMPL) South Asia. The PMCO Pakistan 2021 Fall Split reached a peak viewership of 19,779, per Esports Charts.

PUBG-Mobile however, did not have the best course in Pakistan and was briefly banned in July 2020 by the country’s telecommunications authority. The entity alleged that the game was a « waste of time » and had a « serious negative impact » on children’s psychological and physical health. The game was later unbanned after the authority met with the officials who run the game in the country.
