prototypes could roll soon

Rumors have been hovering around a potential BMW M5 Touring for weeks. Things seem to be getting a bit more clear, as the BMW M boss told Carbuzz reporters that we could quickly see a BMW M5 Touring rolling around the Nurburgring. It’s a fancy way of saying that the sports station wagon is in the works at BMW M, it could arrive at the launch of the next generation.

After all, the sports branch has never marketed a BMW M3 Touring in the past. Last year, she changed her mind and launched it on the market. The station wagon was very well received by the public and the brand’s customers.

We remember that the BMW M5 Touring existed in the past (E34 and E61), but that it had not been renewed in an attempt to overshadow the terrible Audi RS 6 Avant. It (E61) was powered by a V10 engine, which as you can imagine, will not be present under the hood of the new generation. In its place, we will probably find a plug-in hybrid engine that will fully comply with the Euro 7 standard.

It is made up of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor. This engine is already at the heart of the BMW XM, it is said that it could develop a power of 750 hp and 1000 Nm of torque.

The BMW M5 sedan has already been seen by our photographers. According to Frank Van Meel, the station wagon should not take too long to enter the scene. It will succeed the E34 generation marketed between 2007 and 2010, and produced in only 1025 copies. We eagerly await the arrival of Munich’s most edgy family station wagon, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 and Audi RS 6 better watch out.
