Rwandan President Paul Kagame used the platform of the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Kigali to praise the new mindset at work to help African football achieve its goals.

« I am very happy, on behalf of all my country, to welcome you here, » President Kagame told the CAF Executive Committee and the FIFA delegation meeting in the Rwandan capital. « It is a mark of honor for us. The two brothers I am sitting with here (FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe), I have known them for a long time, and our minds are quite well in sync on what to do for sport, for football. Working with them is fun, and we are a family. «

« Politics is my job and I make sure to get involved in good policies, » added the Rwandan President. “When you look at the sport, the teams and the clubs, there is a lot of commonality with politics. It is about leadership. You have to have a vision. Then when you go into detail, it is necessary. to work as a team. Even in the performance of our duties, we must also be humble in what we do, so that we can maximize the results of our work. «

« We must work together and be competitive in our actions, » he added. « And also think of others, beyond our teams. To supporters for example. We have to be ambitious and have energy. You cannot be happy on your own, without your team members not being able to help you. so too. I find that convergence every day in my work. It’s the same in football. All of you who are here today, that’s what you stand for. «

The FIFA President echoed President Kagame’s remarks, stressing that Rwanda’s progress is a benchmark for football in Africa to follow.

« Football is more than just sport, it is a school of life, » said the FIFA President. « Football teaches us to be part of a team. It teaches us that alone we cannot achieve anything. Football teaches us respect for the rules, for our opponents and for the referee, who must apply the rules. football teaches us to win and lose. It teaches us to be resilient and able to take on new challenges. «

« This country (Rwanda) shows us that anything is possible and that is what you, President Kagame, have done here, » he added. « You just have to want it, then do it, and we all want to do it for Africa and for African football. We want to write glorious new pages for African football. Not only for Africa, but also for Africa. the whole world. We want African football to shine all over the world. «

For his part, the President of CAF recognized the important role that the Rwandan President has played in supporting African football at the political level.

« In you, President Kagame, we have not only an ambassador, but a partner, » said Patrice Motsepe. « A partner who speaks on our behalf with all the other heads of state in Africa, to tell them that we must work together to support the most popular sport on this continent. »

The meeting also featured a presentation by FIFA Director of World Football Development Arsène Wenger, who said: “I personally believe that Africa will be the continent of 21e century, and that football must anticipate this movement, because it is a great opportunity « .

The FIFA World Football Development Director was referring to the recently released report, Increasing Global Competitiveness, which highlights the need for any talented player to deserve a chance to be identified and trained, as the analysis showed that many talents are not discovered due to a number of factors, including the lack of planning, quality of education, infrastructure and financial resources to train young people.
