In this meeting between two neighbors of English football, the balance is quickly balanced in terms of mastery of the tempo. Manchester City naturally wants to be faithful to its style of play, and is fiercely determined to retain possession of the ball. However, Leeds do not hesitate to be enterprising, especially on counterattacks, in order to take advantage of all the flaws of the Citizen. In the first 20 minutes, a slip from a Manchester City defender could have allowed Raphinha to race towards goal, but the former Rennais is caught by the defense of Pep Guardiola’s men.

Calmer than their opponents, the partners of Ikay Gundogan nevertheless find the net from the 13th minute. The German finds Rodrigo’s head, and allows his team to lead to the score fairly quickly in the game. Despite this lead on the scoreboard, and several wanderings from the Leeds defence, the Skyblues don’t exude the greatest serenity when returning to the locker room. Note the injury of Stuart Dallas on the side of Leeds, visibly seriously injured in the knee on a shock with Jack Grealish.

Citizens more in control

Lacking control during the first period, Manchester City players appear well quieter during construction on returning from the locker room. After less than 10 minutes, Ruben Dias manages to head a corner from the right, and serves Nathan Aké posted in front of the Leeds goal. The Dutch defender takes advantage of this favorable situation to shake Meslier’s nets for the second time this afternoon. At the end of a particularly difficult second half for Leeds United, Gabriel Jesus seals the result of the day by scoring the 3rd goal of the game, well served by Phil Foden behind him. Despite two great chances for Raphinha’s partners, the locals failed to score this honorary goal. First, the Mancunian defense saves a ball on the goal line, then Emerson relaxes in turn to release a powerful shot from the foot. At the end of the game, Fernandinho even scores the 4th goal of the gamefurther embellishing this seriously acquired victory.
