Italian Roberto de Zerbi has been named Brighton’s new manager to replace Graham Potter who left for Chelsea, the English club announced on Sunday. Currently fourth in the Premier League, the Seagulls have had their scheduled match against Crystal Palace postponed this weekend due to ceremonies ahead of the Queen’s funeral on Monday.
De Zerbi, 43, joined the club on a four-year contract. Coming from Shakhtar Donetsk, he made a name for himself by training Italian club Sassuolo for four years, which had finished eighth in Serie A two years in a row in 2020 and 2021, under his management. He then joined the Ukrainian club but the Russian invasion prematurely put an end to this collaboration.
