Premier League – Aston Villa stops Manchester United (3-1) with a nice goal from Lucas Digne

Manchester United fell to a valiant team from Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s men managed to surprise those of Eric ten Hag at home, at Villa Park, during the 15th day of the Premier League (3-1). Leon Bailey opened the scoring (7th) and Lucas Digne quickly doubled the lead (11th). Manchester United players had a slight burst of pride after Jacob Ramsey’s own goal (45th), but the latter wanted to make up for his mistake by scoring the third goal of the game (49th). After five matches without the slightest defeat in the Premier League, Manchester United saw their rise in the standings stopped and remained in 5th place. For its part, Aston Villa goes back to 13th place.

On paper, the Manchester United team was the favorite against an Aston Villa team that had been suffering for several weeks. However, it was Unai Emery’s men who managed to create the most dangerous chances from the first moments of this match. After a bad pass in depth for Douglas Luiz, a few moments earlier (5th), Jacob Ramsey managed to find Leon Bailey in the Mancunian penalty area for the first goal of the game (7th).

Four minutes later, it was again Jacob Ramsey who, despite himself, was of great importance for his team. Close to overflowing Luke Shaw, Ramsey was mowed down by the Manchester United side at the entrance to the penalty area. A fault that gave an excellent free kick to his team that Lucas Digne was responsible for transforming (11th).

Jet-powered Red Devils

Erik ten Hag’s players started to react after the half-hour mark. Alejandro Garnacho, back in the starting XI, saw his shot denied by Emiliano Martinez despite being ideally served by Christian Eriksen in the repair area. Found at the penalty spot, Cristiano Ronaldo was very close to reducing the gap on a diving header (34th).

It was in the last seconds before returning to the locker room that the Manchester United players managed to come back to score. Luke Shaw tried his luck from the entrance to the penalty area, but his shot was deflected by the back of Ramsey (45th).
