Porsche will supply its electric motors to Andretti

The Andretti team will swap BMW electric motors in Formula E for another German firm: Porsche. The announcement was made this Friday, May 13 ahead of the Berlin ePrix.

It will be the first time that the Andretti team and Porsche will be reunited since 2008, when John Andretti competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona. “Our Formula E journey began with Season 1 in 2014 and we are very proud to be looking to the next generation of the sport, commented Michael Andretti, CEO of the eponymous team in FE. The team has the ambition to win, and with the support of Porsche, we have full confidence in our performance and our growth.

This agreement is an important step in our future and our commitment to our sport, our partners and our fans. Our history with Porsche as two historic racing teams means this collaboration was natural, and we look forward to a new chapter in 2023.”

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, highlighted the historic ties between Andretti and the German manufacturer. « It’s important for us to support a customer team that shows the same passion and professionalism as we do in Formula E. Avalanche Andretti has been racing in Formula E since the first season in 2014. For us, that’s a huge vote of confidence that one of the most experienced teams has chosen to work alongside Porsche from season 9 and wants to field two Porsche 99X Electric drivers.

Porsche and Andretti have a long tradition, and it all started when Mario and Michael made their debut at Le Mans in a Porsche 956 in 1983. We are delighted that the tradition will continue in Formula E, and we hope that our partnership will have so much success. »
