A new record has just been set on the North loop of the Nürburgring. The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has just finished 2 seconds ahead of the Tesla Model S Plaid on the mythical track. The latter wanted to place itself as the best production electric. It was also successful with a record time of 7 minutes 35 seconds and 579 thousandths.

The original car, equipped with racing seats and the obligatory roll bar, finished the circuit in 7 minutes 33 seconds and 3 tenths. It reached a top speed of 269 km/h on the long straight. As a reminder, another attempt with the same vehicle and the same driver was held in 2019, with a time of 7 minutes 42 seconds.

A performance pack planned for the 2023 model

The Taycan Turbo S has embarked a specific kit to achieve its record. The German manufacturer has equipped its car with the “Performance Pack” planned for the 2023 series models. As an option, this update has a price of €13,377.

The Performance Pack includes wide 21-inch RS-Spyder rims shod with road-legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tyres. The Porsche 4D Chassis Control software (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control or PDCC) is specially updated to synchronize the tires and the chassis.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S boasts an output of 761 hp (560 kW). However, she cannot operate them full time. Normally, the vehicle operates only 625 hp (460 kW), but can use its full power for a short time thanks to Launch Control.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has just set the record for production electric vehicles on the Nürburgring. However, it remains very far from the absolute time of electric « very short », held by the Volkswagen ID R.
