Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Sport Classic
Porsche has just unveiled the 911 Sport Classic (Type 992), the second model in the « Heritage Design » program, which pays homage to the iconic 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1972. The watch manufacturer Porsche Design has created a high-end chronograph for this occasion. range reserved for future owners of one of the 1250 copies. An exclusive watch that incorporates several stylistic details of the car.
The new Porsche from the “Heritage Design” program, the beautiful 911 Sport Classic (read here) is inspired by the famous 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1972, but not only that: turbo, mechanical gearbox, lowered chassis and widened bodywork, two-wheel drive, vintage look with its “Fuchs” rims and “ducktail” spoiler. There is also animal DNA 930 Turbo from 1975 here !
On this occasion, the Porsche Design Timepieces manufacture has created a specific chronograph which is reserved exclusively for the lucky owners of one of the 1,250 examples produced. the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Sport Classic is therefore logically also limited to 1250 pieces.
It’s not the first time that Porsche Design designs a watch reserved for owners of a new Porsche. This was the case in 2020 with the Chronograph 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition (read here) dedicated to the Porsche which inaugurated the “Heritage Design” program, or even the Chronograph 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series and Chronograph 911 GT2 RS (read here) in 2017 and the 911 Speedster Chronograph (read here) in 2019.
the Chronograph 911 Sport Classic incorporates many stylistic details evoking the car. Starting with the sporty dial which takes up the “Heritage Design” design of the central tachometer of the 911 Sport Classic with a green timer and numerals, a central chronograph seconds hand and white indexes.
It is available in two versions: matte black with a double “Light Sport Grey” stripe evoking the bodywork of the car or with a houndstooth pattern like the famous “Pepita” fabric of the upholstery dating from the 1960s. of the gold-colored “Porsche Design” logo like the continuous seconds disc at 9 o’clock on which is written “911 Sport Classic Lim. Series”. The two counters display the hours and minutes of the chronograph. The openworked hour and minute hands are coated with white luminescent material in harmony.
The 42mm diameter case (water resistant to 100m) is machined from ultra-lightweight titanium and can be ordered with a black DLC finish. It attaches to the wrist with a strap made from the same “Classic Cognac” leather that adorns the interior of the 911.
On the engine side, the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Sport Classic receives a high-end manufacture movement entirely developed and produced in-house. This is the Werk 01.200 automatic caliber which already fitted the le 911 Speedster Chronograph which offers a power reserve of 48 hours. It incorporates a “flyback” chronograph function, a highly sought-after complication allowing the resetting and instantaneous start of new timing by a single press of one of the pushers. It is chronometer-certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), a guarantee of precision and reliability. Turning the watch over, you can admire the oscillating weight allowing the automatic winding of the movement which takes the shape of the rims of the 911 Sport Classic.
