Porsche 911 Carrera T (2022). An “access” 911 for purists

The Carrera T returns to the 911 range. As on the previous generation, the equipment has been designed for sporty driving, and it is associated with the engine of the basic Carrera with manual gearbox. The coupé also benefits from a few kilos less.

The new Carrera T version of the Porsche 911 combines the less powerful engine with sporty equipment and settings.

Let it be said, the range of the Porsche 911 type 992 will be no less rich than that of its predecessor, the 991. Like the latter, the current and eighth generation of the iconic German sports car is now available in a Carrera T variant, fitting between the Carrera and Carrera S. Its philosophy is the same: pair the base powertrain with features geared towards sporty driving rather than on comfort to offer purists a less expensive alternative to the GTS and GT3.

A few hard lost pounds

In its lightest configuration, this 911 Carrera T weighs 35 kg less than a standard Carrera. This regime involves reduced soundproofing, thinner glazing and a lighter battery. But it also involves deleting the rear seats, a first for a production 911 outside of the ultra-sporty GT versions. Perhaps this is for Porsche to gauge the reaction of buyers before the arrival of the 911 hybrid, which may have to sacrifice its extra seats in order to house an imposing battery. The rear seats are nevertheless offered as a free option.

It should also be noted that a difference in transmission contributes to this weight difference between the Carrera T and Carrera, since the latter is no longer offered with the manual gearbox, standard on the “T”. Porsche announces a mass of 1,545 kg empty in running order for the Carrera T. This new model can receive the PDK dual-clutch transmission as an option.

A configuration dedicated to driving

The Porsche 911 Carrera T therefore takes over the flat-six 3.0 biturbo of 385 hp from the Carrera. It offers as standard:

  • self-locking differential;
  • PASM piloted suspension with ground clearance lowered by 10 mm;
  • 20-inch front and 21-inch rear Carrera S rims;
  • GT steering wheel;
  • Sport Chrono package;
  • sports exhaust;
  • sports seats.

As an option, it can also be equipped with rear steering wheels. The Carrera T can be recognized by Quartz gray details, a tint that can be found on its exterior mirrors, its logos, the ventilation of its bonnet and on its decorative side strips. Exclusively offered as a coupé, the Porsche 911 Carrera T type 992 is available to order in France for €126,330. That’s around €10,000 more than a Carrera and €5,000 less than a Carrera S.
