The race for Toyota #8 was eventful at Monza. From the first corner, Sébastien Buemi received a 10-second Stop & Go, for having caused the spin of the Ferrari n°51. A few laps later the Swiss sent Satoshi Hoshino into the wall, and caused the first retirement of this race, leading to the exit of the safety car. The Japanese prototype received a one-minute penalty for this incident.

After this chaotic start to the race, the crew of the n°8 started to climb back up the hierarchy to try to limit the breakage, and the rest was rather favorable to them, since the Japanese manufacturer managed to finish in the top 4 , behind Peugeot, Ferrari n°50, and the second Toyota.

However, hours after the race, the #8 Toyota received a 50-second penalty for exceeding the maximum powertrain output allowed by WEC technical regulations and the BOP.

Following another penalty imposed on the victorious Ferrari in La Sarthe (#51) after the race, which had already promoted it to fifth place, the #5 Porsche finally finished just outside the podium. The final top 4 of these 6 Hours of Monza is therefore made up of as many different brands. The Toyota finished 6th.
