Platini asks Putin to ‘stop the shooting and shelling’

Former UEFA President Michel Platini spoke to Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. He asked him to stop the shooting and the « aggression » against Ukraine.
Michel Platini also has his opinion on the war in Ukraine. The winner of Euro 1984 with the Blues spoke directly to Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, with whom he « often discussed football and sport ». In a text relayed by the AP news agency, Platini gave his support to the Ukrainian people in this horrible time. « I want to tell my Ukrainian friends, all those great men and women I have met in my career, whether as a footballer or a coach, how much I am on their side, with my heart and my thoughts in these hours of horror and of suffering. I admire their courage and their unity. They are an example for the rest of the world, for each of us, for this fight for freedom« he wrote.

After sending his support to the Ukrainians, the former French footballer, now 66, had words for Vladimir Putin. « I call on the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with whom I have often discussed football and sport, to stop the shooting and the bombardments in Ukraine, and put an end to this aggression in order to initiate a real diplomatic dialogue without delay in favor of the peace »before concluding : « No war is just. Human life is priceless« .
