Pierre Gervais’s last season as equipment manager

MONTREAL – Club de hockey Canadien general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that Pierre Gervais will take part in his final season as equipment manager for the Canadiens in 2021-2022, after working with the organization which now spans over 35 years. Patrick Langlois will take over as Equipment Manager as of the 2022-2023 season.

Pierre Gervais joined the team in 1987-1988, after five seasons with the Sherbrooke Canadiens in the American League (1982 to 1987), and as many in the QMJHL with Trois-Rivières and Sherbrooke.

“First of all, I would like to thank Pierre for his hard work, professionalism and dedication to the Montreal Canadiens over the past 35 years,” said General Manager Marc Bergevin. “Pierre has established himself as one of the best equipment managers in the hockey world during his career and we have been very fortunate to have him with us for all these years. The contacts and relationships he has developed all over the world speak for themselves. «

Gervais, who takes care with dedication and professionalism of everything related to player equipment, was part of the Canadiens edition which won the Stanley Cup in 1993, and of the Sherbrooke school club which won the Calder Cup in 1985. He participated in the Memorial Cup tournament in 1978, 1979 and 1981. A member of the board of the Professional Association of Equipment Managers, he was honored during the 2007-2008 season by The Sports Equipment Managers Association for its 2,000 NHL games (now more than 3,000 games since the March 8, 2021 meeting in Vancouver).

In February 2010, Pierre Gervais was one of the equipment managers for the Canadian team at the Vancouver Olympics and then held the same position in Sochi in 2014. It was his fourth participation in the Olympics, after Salt Lake City in 2002 (gold) and Turin in 2006. Gervais was also a member of the Canadian team that won the World Cup in 2004 and was part of the Canadian selection at the 2005 World Championships ( silver medal).

The organization is currently working to define the parameters of a new role which would allow Pierre Gervais to remain in the entourage of the team. More details will be shared once this role is officially created.
