Philadelphia Flyers sign Emil Andrae to entry-level contract
The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Emil Andrae to an entry-level contract, the club announced Monday afternoon.
Andrae, 21, has six goals and 26 points in 51 games with HV71 in the Swedish Hockey League this season. He recently joined the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL and had two assists in his first two games with the club.
The Flyers originally selected Andrae in the second round (54th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. The five-foot-nine, left-handed defenseman captained Sweden to bronze and scored eight points in seven games at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Andrae’s entry-level contract with the Flyers will start in the 2023-24 season and run through 2026. He is currently playing with the Phantoms on a pro trial deal.
Andrae is the fourth member of the Flyers’ 2020 draft class to sign with the team, joining Tyson Foerster (#23 overall), Zayde Wisdom (#94) and Elliot Desnoyers (#135). The Flyers had until June 1, 2024 to sign Andrae to an entry-level contract before his exclusive signing rights expired.
Of all SHL U21 players last season, Andrae is tied with Detroit Red Wings defensive prospect William Wallinder for first place with 26 points. He also led the way with 20 assists in 56 games.
The Flyers currently sit seventh in the Metropolitan Division (and 26th in the NHL) with a 28-32-12 record and 68 points in 72 games this season. They will return to action Tuesday night to take on the Montreal Canadiens at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
