Peter McCormick will take over as interim Premier League president when Gary Hoffman steps down on February 1, the league announced on Thursday.

McCormick, 69, a lawyer who has also served as interim chairman of the Football Association since November 2020, received support from all 20 clubs.

“(Peter) is well known to all of us and a trusted pair of hands that will be with us through this time of transition. The board’s objective is to have a new permanent chairman in place before the start of next season,” chief executive Richard Masters said.

Hoffman resigned in November following controversy over the takeover of Newcastle United by a Saudi-backed consortium.
