Patrice Motsepe present in Morocco to attend the African Super Cup between WAC and RSB –

The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) arrived in Morocco to attend the African Super Cup which will see this year and for the first time in history, a 100% Moroccan confrontation: between the clubs of WAC and RS BERKANE!

Upon his arrival, Patrice Motsepe expressed his gratitude and his feelings before the meeting:

“I’m happy to be back home. Morocco is such a special country for football and we are here for the two best clubs in Africa. Morocco has invested for many years in youth football, we were also present here for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. It was sensational to have thousands of spectators in the stadiums and to see that the best African players were followed all over the world, on television.

I express my most sincere gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, for his support and for his contribution. I also thank my brother Fouzi Lekjaa and all the governments and ministers, but also all Moroccans. It is the investment of several years. I invite all African countries to be inspired by the support and solidarity of Moroccans and to be proud of it. I am confident for the future of Moroccan football, the best is yet to come.

Today will be a very good game. I wish them all good luck. It’s a great promotion of Moroccan and African football in its best version. I am sure that the players who will play today will make Moroccans and Africans very proud.

I have just arrived from Qatar where I watched the opening of the stadium supposed to host the 2022 World Cup final and I walked proudly recalling that Morocco, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal and Tunisia will represent our continent ».

Thus, the Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat will be, this evening from 8 p.m., the theater of the 31th edition of the African Supercup. An unprecedented confrontation, with Wydad, winner of the Champions League, and Renaissance de Berkane, winner of the CAF Confederation Cup, as protagonists.

An opposition which promises to be under good auspices and which will undoubtedly attract a large number of supporters from both sides. A meeting which comes a little over a month after the final of the Throne Cup which had turned to the advantage of the Berkanis having managed to expand their record with a second trophy that the Reds have not won for two decades now .

This Super Cup match, whistled by an Algerian refereeing trio led by the Mondialist Mustapha Ghorbal, is to be placed under the sign of balance even if some do not hesitate to bet on Wydad which has almost preserved its effective and started the local championship with a bang. For his new coach, the ghost Lhoucine Ammouta, it’s time for optimism, especially since « the WAC aims to win this trophy for the second time in its history ». He said in his media releases relayed by MAP that he « is proud to see two Moroccan teams compete for this trophy, which will expand the Moroccan football record whatever the result ».
