The American was shot in the chest as he left a bar-restaurant in Reading, Pennsylvania. The man died a few hours later in hospital from his injuries. Police have opened a homicide investigation. After his time in the NFL, Antonio Dennard played in the Arena Football League (American indoor football) between 2015 and 2017, with the Arizona Rattlers. The one who played as a cornerback then put an end to his career as an athlete to convert to coaching youth teams.

On Facebook, Brandon Roberts, coach of Antonio Dennard when the latter was at the University of Langston (Oklahoma), paid a vibrant tribute to his former player: « This young man lost his life because of the violence of the weapons. He was the first pro I coached. I remember the days at Langston, when I was coaching you, how good a player you were. I was telling NFL scouts about what a grown up you were and what a brave kid you were. I remember us sitting in the boardroom talking to the 49ers, Jets, Jaguars, Packers and Eagles. I know that today you received your wings. RIP to my former player Antonio Dennard. Great guy, tough loss.«
