First announced benign, the injury of the star runner ends his 2021 campaign.
Hit in the ankle, Christian McCaffrey did not participate in the second half of the Panthers against the Dolphins. The injury was initially declared minor, but subsequent examinations on Monday completely reversed the diagnosis.
According to ESPN, Carolina has announced that the star runner has been placed on the injured list for the second time this year, and will not be eligible for a new activation this season. Its 2021 campaign is therefore over.
Matt Rhule had explained to the press on Monday that the radios had come back positive and had shown no damage. The coach even thought that McCaffrey could probably have returned to the field with a strap. But it was the results of an MRI performed later that convinced the club to turn off the running back. McCaffrey suffers from a sprain, and the damage is serious enough to require another passage through the injured list.
McCaffrey has been hit by injuries regularly in recent years. After missing 23 of the last 33 Panthers games, he has only participated in seven games this season, recording 442 yards on the ground for 1 touchdown.
The star runner has a guaranteed salary of $ 8.1 million for 2022, but nothing beyond.
