Oshie could face the Sabers on Tuesday

TJ Oshie could be in uniform with the Washington Capitals when they host the Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; SNE, SNP, NBCSWA+, MSG-B, ESPN+, SN NOW), after missing the last six games due to a an upper body injury.

The forward, who was injured against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 17, took part in Monday’s full practice and completed reps on the first wave of the power play. Coach Peter Laviolette, however, would not confirm the presence of Oshie against the Sabres.

“We’ll probably have a better idea tomorrow morning after seeing how things went today,” said Laviolette. He’s probably a bit ahead of the others, but we’ll see after practice today.

“We wanted to give him some practice on the power play to make sure he’s ready, if he’s actually able to play. »

Although the attackers Tom Wilson (operation on a left knee ligament) and Nicklas Backstrom (left hip surgery) participated in the entire session, Laviolette warned that they « still have a little work to do » before they are ready to play their first game this season.

Backstrom returned to training after going through COVID-19 protocol last week.

“There’s nothing to worry about, they’re just doing what it takes to come back,” said Laviolette.
