Oreca will assemble the future Ferrari GT3
Ferrari is teaming up with Oreca for its future GT3, which will start in competition in 2023. The French company has won a tender and will assemble this new car, which is still in development at the present time on the basis of a production car whose name has not yet been officially disclosed. Oreca, which will also provide customer support, will succeed Michelotto Automobili, which has been building the Ferrari GT3s from the 458 Italia model which appeared ten years ago.
« The agreement with Oreca is an important starting point for the new GT3 project », explains Antonio Coletta, director of the GT sports branch at Ferrari. « We have very ambitious goals, knowing that this car will follow in the footsteps of the 488, which was the most successful model in the history of the Prancing Horse. In addition to the skills and knowledge of our engineers, we We can count on a first-rate partner like Oreca, which has had great success in the world of Endurance. So we look to the future with confidence. «
The new car is currently being developed in Maranello by a technical team headed by Ferdinando Cannizzio. It could be based on the 296 GTB model which was unveiled in the middle of the year by the Italian manufacturer. The first trials of the competition model are scheduled for the first half of 2022.
Founded in 1973 by Hugues de Chaunac and known, among others, for its success in prototypes, Oreca also has extensive experience in GT and is delighted with this new prestigious collaboration.
« It is a great emotion and a great honor for Oreca to become the partner of a motorsport myth like Ferrari », confides Hugues de Chaunac. « I warmly thank Antonello Coletta and his team for the confidence they have placed in us. For the first time in its history, Oreca is teaming up with Ferrari at the heart of such a program and it is a huge source of pride. »
« It is also an important responsibility vis-à-vis the brand and its customers, Ferrari has always been guided by the excellence of its cars in motorsport and we must fit perfectly into this lineage. An exciting challenge that motivates and mobilizes all of Oreca Technology’s technical teams involved in this program. We are committed to putting all our experience, our expertise and our ‘Racing Spirit’ at the service of this new generation of cars. «
“To collaborate so closely with Ferrari is, on a personal level, the fulfillment of a dream and the realization for Oreca of a long term work to become a world benchmark company in the construction of racing cars and the associated customer support. I am convinced that we, with Ferrari, are at the genesis of a virtuous partnership and that we are going to carry out very good projects together. «
This agreement and the preparation of Ferrari’s future GT3 did not, however, immediately mark the end of the 488’s career in competition, nor of the association between the Italian brand and Michelotto Automobili, its historical partner since the 1980s.
« This is not the end of our technical collaboration with Michelotto », assures a spokesperson for Ferrari. « We will continue to work with them on the 488, which is not going to disappear from the circuits, and there will be projects that we will announce in the future. »
