OM snatch their qualification, Rennes and Monaco eliminated
[ad_1]
Marseille validated their qualification for the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League thanks to their victory in Basel (2-1). Winners of Leicester (2-1), the Rennais for their part came very close to the feat, but they missed a goal to overthrow Leicester, victorious in the first leg 2-0. In the Europa League, Monaco never really believed it against Braga (1-1, 2-0 in the first leg).
Basel-OM 1-2 (first leg: 1-2)
Clearly dominant in the first leg but « only » 2-1 winners, the Marseillais had a very small goal to defend on the lawn of Parc Saint-Jacques, all without Payet, suspended. In the 35th minute, the game almost changed when Harit was mowed down from behind in the area by Burger, in the position of last defender. The Basel avoided the red card by simply being warned, and then he saw Harit miss his penalty against Lindner.

At that time, we said to ourselves that OM would surely quickly regret this golden opportunity. And the sentence fell shortly after the hour mark: forgotten at the far post, Dan Ndoye, passed by OGC Nice, crucified Mandanda at close range and reset all the counters to zero (1-0, 63rd). This opener did not, however, affect the morale of the Marseillais, who immediately attacked the Swiss goal and were rewarded just before entering the last quarter of an hour. Served on a plateau by Gerson, Ünder places a perfect volley at the far post to put his team in front in the aggregate of the two games (1-1, 74th). In additional time, Rongier even allowed the Phocaeans to win with a very nice shot at the entrance to the area. Goals to savor in the video above.

Rennes-Leicester 2-1 (first leg: 0-2)
The Rennais have however put all the necessary ingredients for the “Rennesmontada” hoped for by their supporters. Dominated 2-0 on the way to England, the Bretons had come halfway from the 9th minute, when Bourigeaud capsized a melting Roazhon Park (1-0) by cutting off a Terrier center at close range. The little touch of madness, necessary to reverse such a situation, has been put in, but a well-known player in France has taken a big blow to the morale of the Bretons after returning from the locker room.
>> Relive Rennes-Leicester
Former Stéphanois Fofana, absent from the field since last summer and who was making his big comeback this Thursday evening, deceived Alemdar, replacing Gomis in the Rennes goals, with a well-placed header (1-1, 51st ). Everything had to be done again for Genesio’s men, who never gave up and even managed to get back in front thanks to Tait in the 76th minute. Roazhon Park went back to believing in an extension and almost capsized a third time on a huge chance from Guirassy, but his deflection was diverted by an imperial Schmeichel. Despite the enormous pressure put on the Foxes’ goals in the money-time, the Rennais failed to create the feat.
Monaco-Braga 1-1 (first leg: 0-2)
Monegasques have never really had time to hope. Hardly beaten 2-0 in the first leg, Philippe Clement’s men conceded the opener in the 20th minute through Abel Ruiz. From outside the area, the Spanish striker tried his luck and was able to count on the help of Nübel, guilty of a handball, to give the Portuguese a three-goal lead in aggregate (0-1 , 20th).
>> Relive Monaco-Braga (1-1)
The Rock club had a few chances to reduce the score and put a little madness in this meeting, but they were ineffective on their few opportunities, Ben Yedder notably stumbled several times on Matheus, the Braga goalkeeper. In the end, ASM, however dominating in this return match, managed to save the honor at the very end of the match on a goal from Disasi (1-1, 90th). But Monaco comes out through the very small door.
